Electric Scooter Maintenance 101 — Phoenix Owner’s Guide

Electric scooters are the most popular form of personal electric transport in Phoenix. They’re affordable, convenient, and perfect for short trips. But they need maintenance too.

Weekly Checks

  • Tire pressure — Low pressure drains battery and causes flats.
  • Brake check — Squeeze and ensure firm engagement.
  • Stem latch — For folding scooters. A loose latch is dangerous.
  • Battery level — Don’t store at 0%.

Monthly Maintenance

  • Brake pad inspection — Replace at 2mm or less.
  • Tire tread check — Phoenix streets have glass and debris.
  • Deck grip tape — Replace if worn or peeling.
  • Bolt check — Stem, handlebars, folding mechanism.

Phoenix-Specific Scooter Care

  • Heat kills scooter batteries faster than e-bike batteries (smaller packs, less thermal mass)
  • Dust clogs brake calipers — clean monthly
  • Store scooters indoors during summer
  • Check tire pressure weekly — hot pavement increases PSI
